Daytona International Speedway is the home of “The Great American Race”—the Daytona 500. The Daytona 500 is the biggest, richest and most prestigious race in America and annually kicks off the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  Although the Daytona 500 garners most of the attention, the enormous 480-acre motorsports complex boasts the most diverse schedule of racing on the globe—earning it the title of “World Center of Racing.”  In addition to nine major weekends of racing activity, featuring everything from NASCAR to the Rolex Sports Car Series to the American Motorcyclist Association and the World Karting Association, the Speedway is also booked for more than two solid months each year for testing and development of various race vehicles. Motorized meandering aside, rarely a week goes by that the Speedway grounds are not used for events that include civic and social gatherings, car shows, athletic games, photo “shoots,” production vehicle testing and police motorcycle training.

The Manager of Strategic Communications is a key role within the Daytona International Speedway (DIS) Marketing Department. The manager will be responsible for content development across all marketing channels, while working closely with the Senior Manager of Public Relations to ensure both internal and external messaging is consistent and on point with the DIS brand. This person must be an excellent writer who easily contributes with internal and external teams and partners.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Initiate and develop content for all marketing communications materials, including marketing brochures, sales collateral, presentations, email campaigns and web site content.
  • Develop creative, strategic marketing campaigns to drive ticket sales, engage fans and build the brand.
  • Manage the execution of partner activation surrounding Daytona events, in conjunction with the Partnership Management team.
  • Develop, implement and manage marketing/advertising/media performance measurements.
  • Establish and build strong working relationships with team members and key external and internal stakeholders, especially DIS Public Relations and Ticketing, to ensure the successful delivery of communications strategy.
  • Support and strengthen the DIS brand across all public facing channels in close partnership with the public relations team through consistent messaging and strategic positioning.

Event Responsibilities

  • Develop, in conjunction with Sprint Vision, unique and interesting content for the in-house jumbotrons. Develop and maintain strong working relationship with the Sprint Vision team.
  • Manage and oversee pre-race ceremonies, in conjunction with Senior Director of Marketing, including stage development and placement and timing and develop new and innovative ways to continue enhancing the pre-race fan experience.
  • Manage logistics of special guests during event weekends including celebrity guests, pre-race entertainment, pace car drivers, etc.

The Speedway has been open since 1995 following an initiative to spur economic recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. The 650-acre facility is active more than 280 days per year and will host NASCAR’s championship races during Ford Championship Weekend (November 14-16, 2014) for the 13th consecutive year. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship Ford EcoBoost 400 is broadcast live on TV and radio to 200 countries in 24 languages. Homestead-Miami Speedway, featuring a 1.5-mile oval and 2.21-mile road course, generates more than $250 million annually for the region.
