Marketing and Events Manager – Sonoma Raceway (Sonoma, CA)

Sonoma Raceway, a division of Speedway Motorsports, Inc., is seeking a Marketing & Events Manager   to be based at the raceway administrative office in Sonoma, CA.  Sonoma Raceway is one of the premier road-racing and drag-strip venues in the country, hosting the best in NASCAR, NHRA Drag Racing, INDYCAR and more.  The raceway, which is busy 350 days each year and also boasts a motor-sports industrial park, is located at the gateway of the scenic Sonoma Valley, just 30 miles north of San Francisco. Responsibilities

The Marketing & Events Manager is responsible for co-developing and executing a marketing strategy that will drive brand awareness, support corporate sponsorships and increase ticket sales for Sonoma Raceway’s major events.  The Marketing & Events Manager is responsible for developing and producing top-tier national events that involve collaboration across multiple departments. This position requires great attention to detail, creative thinking, excellent organizational skills, strong people management skills, and a passion for creating high quality fan experience.

Production:

  • Work closely with graphic designer to plan and coordinate the production of printed sales collateral.
  • Manage graphic design timeline for promotional materials including sizing specifications, approved images and content
  • Work with print companies on pricing, uploading images/graphic and ordering promotional materials

Programs:

  • Manage deliverable fulfillment of existing Raceway programs and work with internal teams to create and develop programs to address opportunities and initiatives
  • Oversee planning and execution of all advance, during and post event initiatives and programs
  • Work with sponsorship department to develop campaign briefs and program proposals
  • Work with sponsorship team to obtain support for existing programs and expand programs to wider audiences

People:

  • Supervise, recruit, hire, and coordinate schedules, set goals and monitor direct work of Marketing Coordinator, Marketing Intern, Sonoma Raceway Girls, Promo Team and Ambassadors

 Main Events

  • Work with individual series (NASCAR, NHRA and IndyCar) and production team on schedules, race day scripts and stage production
  • Coordinate all Aerial activities between FAA, jet teams and any other aerial activities during pre-race ceremonies
  • Book pre-race entertainment; National Anthem Singer, musical acts and pyro,
  • Discover and procure event enhancement elements;  Ferris Wheel, outdoor movie screens, stages, and banners
  • Coordinate with VIPs – Grand Marshall, Honorary Starter, Sonoma Raceway VIPs, Sponsorship VIPs, etc
  • Submit Military requests for Large American Flag presentation, Cannon Salute and Honor Guard

Promotional  & Special Events

  • Oversee the strategy and planning of off-site promotions, tradeshows and special events; including but not limited to: event registration, show car transportation, trade agreements, insurance, set up and breakdown logistics, and staffing
  • Oversee the coordination of special events including logistics planning with cities, Police Departments, CHP, etc
  • Work with Sales Department on in-store displays, show car appearances and viewing parties for sponsors
  • Develop ongoing data collection efforts and techniques for off-site promotions and web based contests through internal resources and sponsorship support

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have experience producing and promoting major events
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the necessary function of the position, previous work at motorsports or sports facility preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Communication, Business Administration, Sports Management or any related field
